The MEA Guide to filling in the ESA and Universal Credit forms

Home > The ME Association Shop > Benefits & Social Care > The MEA Guide to filling in the ESA and Universal Credit forms

Our welfare rights adviser, Ann Innes, has written this three-part guide to assist those intending to claim for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and for Universal Credit on ill-health grounds. People making a renewal claim will also find it helpful.

There are now three types of ESA: New Style ESA, contribution-based ESA and income-related ESA. To claim any of these, you must be of working age (16 or over but under State Pension age) and have an illness of impairment that affect your ability to work.

The guide provides a detailed understanding ofl how you can score points when completing the UC50 or ESA50 Work Capability Questionnaires and provides a good overview of the Face-to-Face Assessment.
