Professor Holgate to speak on the need for a national research strategy for ME/CFS

Professor Stephen Holgate, chair of the Medical Research Council’s new advisory panel on ME/CFS, has been booked by the Dorset ME Support Group to speak on the need for a national research strategy for the illness.

He will be giving a medical lecture on the subject at the Allendale Community Centre, Hanham Road, Wimborne, Dorset, on Saturday, January 10, at 2.30pm.

Professor Holgate is clinical professor of immunopharmacology at the School of Medicine, University of Southampton, and hosted a well-attended colloquium on ME/CFS and fibromyalgia at Southampton General Hospital in February of this year.

He has been appointed chairman of the Medical Research Council’s new ME/CFS advisory research strategy panel but no announcements have yet been made about the other members of the panel.

The meeting at Wimborne will be a ‘first come, first seated’ event. Tickets will be on sale at the door costing a minimum of £3 each to defray expenses. One accompanying carer will be admitted free.
