The Bath paediatric ME/CFS service provides local, regional and national assessment and treatment for over 150 children and young people each year. It is now open to the ‘choose and book’ appointment system run by the NHS. This means that children or adolescents anywhere in the country should have access to their out-patient service for advice on either diagnosis or management through a GP referral.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough

This a small community team based at the Ida Darwin, Fulbourn, who provide a specialist service to children and young people up to the age of 19 years with CSF/ME, who are registered with a GP and attend school in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.The team consists of: a paediatric consultant who acts as a link consultant to paediatricians throughout the area; children’s community nurse who provides a specialist to role in developing services for children and young people with CFS/ME throughout the area, in order to promote good practice for their care; paediatric cccupational therapist who provides a specialist role to develop good practice within the local OT team and acts as a link role with OT’s throughout the area. The remit of the team is to: to improve awareness of CFS/ME and the management of the condition offered by those working with children and young people with CFS/ME in education, social services and secondary and primary care; to support local implementation of the RCPCH guidance on CFS/ME; gather information on the needs of the above children and young people and their families in order to identify gaps in local provision and support future service development; provide specialist clinics to enable children to access the service. The service provides advice and support to local services (i.e. local paediatricians, children’s nurses, local occupational therapists and GPs) who remain the key service providers. Referrals for the CFS/ME service are accepted via telephone or letter from consultant paediatricians. Referrals for the Children’s Community Nursing Teams & Special Needs School Nursing Team are accepted via telephone, faxed referral form or letter.

Cornwall

Clinics are run in Truro, Bodmin, Camborne/Redruth, Helston, Poltair and Stratton.

The service offers an outpatient and community-based service for patients
suspected of having CFS/ME, providing diagnosis, assessment, and a clinical management plan to enable long-term rehabilitation, sharing care with the GP and returning the patient to primary care following re-enablement. The team comprises a clinical immunologist, a GP with special interest, a consultant clinical psychologist, four occupational therapists and aclinical secretary/administrator.
Services for children: There is a separate service for children and young people affected, run within paediatrics, up to the age of 18. Transition is managed jointly.

Dorset

Assessment and treatment is available to all children living in Dorset with appointments offered locally.  Limited domiciliary visits are available if required for those unable to attend an out-patient appointment.
Referrals are accepted from GPs, school doctors and other paediatricians. Early referral is strongly recommended for children who are struggling to cope with daily activities and school attendance due to disabling fatigue.
Treatment including therapy and medical reviews, is offered by the multi-disciplinary therapy team which is made up of Team Leader/Occupational Therapist, Clinical Psychologist, Physiotherapist , Child Support Worker and Administrator.  Medical support is provided by Consultant Paediatricians.
The service offers an individual plan of fatigue management, psychological therapy and lifestyle management, according to need, to young people and their families. School liaison, information and training are a key part of the Team’s work.                                                                                                                                                      

Hertfordshire

January 2009: The ME/CFS service for children and adolescents at Lister Hospital, Stevenage, has been reinstated. The original service was closed in 2006 and this resulted in widespread protests from parents and children – who then had to travel to London's Great Ormond Street Hospital if they required access to a specialist ME/CFS service.The new service, which started in November 2008, is currently covering North and East Hertfordshire.  The situation is due to be reviewed in six months time. We don't, at present, have contact details for this service. Liverpool

This multi-disciplinary team offers advice, support and individual treatment programmes for children and young people diagnosed with ME/CFS. It coordinates the many services involved in caring for these young people and their families.
Referral information
Children and young people up to the age of 16, with unexplained chronic fatigue can be referred to the service by a Consultant Paediatrician or a Senior CAMHS professional. Referrals for the 16 and 17 year old age group should be discussed with the team to discuss the most appropriate service. The team currently welcomes referrals for direct intervention for children/young people from Bolton, Salford, Wigan and Manchester. The team also welcomes referrals for professional consultation only from clinicians within the other areas of the Greater Manchester footprint. As the service develops, it hopes to offer direct services throughout the whole of the Greater Manchester region, and professional consultation further afield within the North West.

North Hampshire and Surrey

The chronic fatigue service here takes referrals from paediatricians at four Hampshire and Surrey hospitals in its catchment area. The service – which is entirely domiciliary – is co-ordinated by nurse specialist Chrissie Cowan and has access to a consultant paediatrician Dr Michael Tettenborn and a physiotherapist.
