NATIONAL DIAGNOSTIC AND SPECIALIST REHABILITATION SERVICE

This service, based in the regional Essex Neuroscience Unit at Queen's Hospital in Romsford, has a national inpatient service and a national outpatient service. The clinical lead is consultant neurologist Professor Leslie Findley and his associate specialist is Dr J Davis.

The inpatient unit on Sahara A Ward has eight dedicated beds for patients with ME/CFS – the only unit of its type in the UK. The average length of stay is three months.

The inpatient service offers a wide range of evidence-based treatments including:

• Diagnosis and management
• Nursing care
• Lifestyle management
• Graded activity
• Nutritional programmes
• Individual, couple and family counselling as required
• Psychological assessment 
• Support with housing and benefits
• Discharge planning Step down facility to facilitate the transition from hospital to home 
• Follow up clinics in the medical/occupational therapy clinic
