| London Bridge Fatigue Clinic - feedback requested |
|
The ME Association is keen to receive feedback from anyone who has been referred to the London Bridge Fatigue Clinic (LBFC) – in particular anyone who has been asked to go there in relation to a permanent health insurance (PHI) or income protection policy claim, or for occupational health reasons. According to the LBFC website, the service offers a treatment programme involving CBT and GET that is based on the recommendations in the NICE guideline and that ' ..there is roughly a 70% chance of significant improvement in fatigue'.The ME Association asked the LBFC for some clarification on this and other points. In reply, we have been informed that the 70% figure is based on results from some of the research studies that have been carried out to assess these forms of treatment and not from their own outcome data (which is not yet available as the service only started in September 2007). The clinic also point out that the figure refers to 'mild to moderate' cases and that they 'offer no guarantee of success'. The LBFC have also confirmed to us that, as recommended by NICE, the use of a heart rate monitor will be included when patients are progressing with a graded exercise programme.
