Information and support line

ME Connect is the ME Association's Information and Support Service. The service is manned by volunteers, many of whom will be people with ME or their carers.

Please note, we do not offer a counselling service, and our volunteers will not take over the management of your problems but they will try to help you to work out how you can best approach your problems and so put you in control of your situation.

What does ME Connect do?

Our volunteers will try to help with questions on:

  • ME/CFS and its symptoms
  • management of the illness
  • welfare benefits - although ME Connect is unable to give individual advice on benefits, our volunteers will be able to signpost you to leaflets and telephone numbers to help you
  • leaflets, books and other merchandise available from The ME Association - we can also send you an Order Form if you wish. We are able to send Information Packs to non-members. Please click here for a copy of our Order Form for leaflets, books and other items
  • details of local groups
  • local Consultants and Clinics

Please note that the ME Connect helpline and email service cannot answer individual queries about medical management or diagnosis.

We do, however, have a range of literature that covers all aspects of diagnosis, symptoms, other conditions that can cause ME/CFS-like symptoms, and management. These booklets and leaflets are listed on our pdf literature order form.

Regarding diagnosis, we have two booklets that cover assessment and diagnosis of ME/CFS in some detail:

'ME/CFS/PVFS - An Exploration of the Key Clinical Issues' and 'ME diagnosis - Delay Harms Health'

These booklets can also be given to your doctor.

We also have leaflets that cover blood tests that are relevant to making a diagnosis and referrals to specialists – both private and NHS.

The MEA website has a list of geographical locations of the new NHS multidisciplinary hospital clinics that have been set up for diagnosis and management of ME/CFS.

ME Connect

A unique service that combines support and information.

The service specialises in providing illness-specific information on a wide range of issues, and will help you find other agencies with relevant expertise – particularly in the areas of benefits and education. This comprises trained volunteers working part-time from their own homes who offer support to people who have recently discovered they have the illness, those who are finding it difficult to cope, and many others affected by ME/CFS. Many of the ME Connect volunteers have ME/CFS themselves.

The ME Association is a member of the Telephone Helplines Association and ME Connect was nominated for the BT Telephone Helplines Association Awards in the category "The best use of technology to improve access for service users".
