Professor Leonard Jason discusses treatment and management | latest video release by Dutch group | 12 October 2014

October 12, 2014

The latest in the series of educational videos about ME/CFS made for worldwide release by the Dutch group, ME/CVS Vereniging, appeared online this week. This one – No 54 – features Leonard Jason, a professor of psychology at DePaul University in Chicago, who discusses the treatment and management of the illness.

The video is based on the following questions from people with ME/CFS:

What is the role of a psychologist in the treatment of ME?
How can it be avoided that the psychological approach gets the upper hand?
What are useful treatments for ME in your opinion?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of CBT and GET?
What is pacing, what is enveloping, and what are the differences?

The videos can be viewed on the Dutch group's YouTube Channel. They have been made possible with funding from the government of The Netherlands.

  1. Prof. Jason is so right when he says that currently, patients are being given inappropriate medical treatment in only being offered behavioural strategies. That these strategies are still the only “treatments” promoted by the NICE guidelines, and thus in the NHS clinics, is simply negligent and inexcusable.
